When going out for the day, please drive slowly and smoothly up the incline and if you have arranged for any food or postal deliveries during your stay please ask the carrier to park at the top of the drive.
A guide to the kitchen appliances is in a blue folder in the cupboard above the cooker.
Should you have any questions during your stay, feel free to contact us. We also have a guest book and we encourage you to browse through past entries and leave your own as well, particularly if you have discovered something special in the area and would like future guests to share in this.
Please feel free to water the hangings baskets and plants at the door, in season, if they are looking a bit sad, they (and we) will be very grateful.
We hope you enjoy your stay and may visit us again in the future.
Please refrain from smoking cigarettes, cigars or vaping at Bishop’s Bay Cottage.
Cutlery drawer:
The main cutlery drawer is accessed in the top of the drawer under the foil dispenser.
There is another under the drawer opposite in the island unit (both well-hidden and slide out). If you require more space in the lower dishwasher rack, you can remove the cutlery basket and use the the cutlery drawer which slides out under the very top of the dishwasher.
Fridge/Freezer:
When using the freezer section, please ensure that all drawers are pushed back correctly into position otherwise the seal on the door may not close, causing a build up of ice and reducing efficiency.
Heating:
All heating is underfloor – please see the separate sheet on the information table about the controllers or see the section below.
Underfloor heating takes a while to change to a selected temperature – up or down.
Adjust up or down a degree or two at a time. It may be preferable to open a window if you want to cool down quickly.
If you prefer to sleep in a cool bedroom do not adjust the temperature too high as it will take time to cool down.
Wood burner:
Please see the instructions for the wood burner on the shelf to the left of the fireplace. The ash does not need emptying.
If the room gets too warm when using the fire it is best not to adjust the underfloor heating as this will make little difference.
Microwave Oven:
The Microwave is in the top combination oven – please remove any metal trays before use as a Microwave.
It can be used in combination mode please see the appliance instructions which are in the cupboard above the oven.
NESPRESSO Coffee:
Please help us and the environment if having Nespresso coffee by recycling the used aluminium pods. There is a bag for dry pods in box outside.
Milk Warmer: Do not place the unit in the dishwasher or immerse in water. Wash lid and rotating spindle in soapy water but only rinse the main body and pat dry with kitchen towel.
Dyson stick ‘hoover’:
If using the appliance during your stay, to empty the contents; separate the top section from the stick by pressing the light grey button, above the Dyson name. Place above the kitchen dustbin and push the larger red switch on the clear unit down to pop open it open, allowing waste to fall into the bin. Push the lid back in firmly to clip it closed.
Recycling:
Please see the recycling sheet on the information table or the section below for what to put in the blue dustbin. The local council cannot recycle black plastic tubs or carrier bags / bin liners.
SAFETY FIRST
Remember to unplug all phone/laptop/i-pod chargers/hair straighteners/curling wands when you are not in the room as these appliances have been known to overheat and can cause a fire. Also extinguish any candles when leaving a room unattended.
Security Cameras. We have Security Cameras installed. One points up the driveway and the other towards the grass path which leads down to the shoreline. If this concerns you, please let us know.
As part of our fire risk assessment it is recommended that once the main door is locked that you leave the key in place in the lock. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, it can be left on the shelf in the entry vestibule but please ensure that all guests are aware of where the key is in the event of a fire enabling a fast exit from the cottage through the main door if necessary.
